I go back and forth on listening to music while I work. Sometimes I just can’t do it because it’s too distracting and I need absolute quiet to focus. But there have also been times when putting on a set of headphones and cranking up something particularly peppy (tastes vary, but I’m generally a pop/rock fan) is the only thing getting me through a long day.
Lately, I’ve put the headphones on and found… nothing. It’s like my entire music collection sucks! Out of nowhere! Nothing appeals and I’m skipping songs and fast-forwarding through playlists and nothing hits that sweet spot. I know it’s just a phase but I hope it passes quickly.
Unfortunately, I’ll have to wait until August for this to come out:
On August 14, the Starbucks label Hear Music/Concord will celebrate the legacy of Fleetwood Mac with a new tribute album, Just Tell Me That You Want Me. The compilation includes 17 covers from across the band’s discography, featuring Antony, Best Coast, MGMT, New Pornographers, Lykke Li, Tame Impala, Washed Out, the Kills, and more. It also includes several collaborations: Lee Ranaldo with J Mascis, St. Vincent with Craig Wedren, and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy with Matt Sweeney.

Two of my favorite things together: Fleetwood Mac + covers! So at least there’s that to look forward to. In the meantime, I’ll just put this on repeat:
The New Pornographers are one of my favorite bands and they also do an awesome cover of Toronto’s “Your Daddy Don’t Know”:
